Willie Nelson, the 86-year-old country music legend, has long been a favorite to many. Not only is he known for his songs, but also for his love of animals. Willie has always had a special place in his heart for horses. Recently, he saved 70 horses from being sent to slaughter. Now, these lucky horses roam free on his beautiful 700-acre ranch in Texas.
When Willie isn’t traveling for concerts, he spends his time at home on Luck Ranch. He once said, “When you’re here, you’re in luck.” His horses must feel the same! They are well taken care of, getting hand-fed twice every day. Willie shared, “They probably thought they were going to be slaughtered, but now they’re happy.”
Willie’s love for horses shines through his music. His song “Ride Me Back Home” is a tribute to them. Back in 2015, he won an award for his video The Love of Horses, where he worked with people trying to protect horses from harm.
The love for horses runs in Willie’s family. His son, Lucas, also helps save horses and works with groups who want to stop their slaughter. Lucas’ band even sings songs about the beauty of horses and nature.
As for Willie’s future, he jokes about retiring after every show, but his love for music and life keeps him going. And with his horses by his side, it seems like he’ll keep playing for a long time.
