Tenzing-Hillary Airport, commonly known as Lukla Airport, is often regarded as the world’s most dangerous airport due to its extreme location in the Himalayas, at approximately 2,860 meters above sea level. Its runway is remarkably short, measuring just 527 meters, and features a steep 12-degree incline that aids both braking and takeoff. Adding to the challenge, Lukla’s weather is highly unpredictable, with frequent low clouds and strong winds making flight operations even more difficult. Only specially trained and highly experienced pilots are permitted to land at this treacherous airstrip.
