He is the singer Jon Bon Jovi. His personal fortune is $410 million, yet he washes trays and dishes at his restaurant chain, Soul Kitchen, in Newark, New Jersey. Created by him for the homeless, where they can eat for free forever.
During the pandemic
In March 2020, Bon Jovi’s wife, Dorothea, posted a photo of him washing dishes at the restaurant on social media. The photo went viral, and Bon Jovi wrote a song about it called “Do What You Can,” which was included in the band’s album Bon Jovi 2020.
Bon Jovi usually washed dishes five days a week at the restaurant. He said he was proud to be able to give back and joked that he probably had the cleanest hands in New Jersey because they were always in the sink.
JBJ Soul Kitchen serves both paying and needy customers. Guests typically pay for their meals with a donation in cash or volunteer hours. The restaurant is run by the Jon Bon Jovi Soul Foundation and serves healthy regional American cuisine.
