Flying dragons are a type of lizard, and they live in the warm forests of South East Asia. They’re not big, only about 8 to 10 inches long. What makes them special are the wings they have on their sides. These wings help them glide from tree to tree, soaring through the air for as far as 60 meters, but only dropping 10 meters.

They love staying high up in the trees, and only come down when it’s time to make babies. The male dragon shows off his wings to get the female’s attention, and then they start the process of making new little dragons.

Afterwards, the mommy dragon lays her eggs in a small hole in the ground. She lays around 4 or 5 eggs, then covers them gently with dirt and leaves. She stays with them for just one day, keeping them safe. After that, she climbs back to her tree, leaving the eggs to grow on their own.

Every flying dragon looks a little different depending on what type it is, but all of them share the same wonderful ability to glide. They’re tiny, magical creatures, and when you see them, they fill your heart with wonder.

Valtteri Mulkahainen is a teacher in Sotkamo, Finland. He loves taking pictures of nature, especially the animals that live in his country. For six years, he’s been lucky enough to catch beautiful moments of wildlife on camera.

One summer day, on June 3rd, 2013, Valtteri went out to explore the forests around Martinselkonen. While he was walking, something amazing happened. A bear appeared, and she was not alone. She had her cubs with her.

Valtteri watched in awe as the little cubs played, just like children. They tumbled around, chasing each other and laughing in their own way. Sometimes, they would stop and push each other, standing on their back legs, as if they were dancing in a circle. It reminded Valtteri of the children playing near his home.

He was hiding in a small shelter, about 50 meters away, so the bear and her cubs didn’t see him. He stayed there for hours, watching them. He clicked his camera as the sun set and as the night came. The bear and her cubs stayed around, moving slowly, as if they didn’t notice how close Valtteri was. He took so many pictures that evening, and he knew he had witnessed something special.

Bears are not rare in Finland, though you might not see them easily. They like to stay away from people. But Valtteri was lucky. The bears here are strong, quick, and good at climbing. They are also good swimmers. But, most of the time, they prefer to hide, making them hard to spot.

For Valtteri, the moments he captured were unforgettable. The cubs looked so sweet and innocent, like little children enjoying a game. In that moment, he felt like he was sharing something special with them. It was a gift, one he would always remember.

There are between 2,000 and 2,130 bears in Finland, but you rarely get to see them up close. Valtteri was lucky, and his photos showed just how beautiful these creatures really are.

Imagine losing part of yourself, like an ear or a flipper, without any warning. It would be so scary. Sadly, many animals and people face this kind of loss because of accidents or bad luck. What really matters is how they go on with their lives after that.

At a special place in Japan called the Okhotsk Tokkari Center in Monbetsu, there lives a brave earless seal. This seal lost his ears, but he didn’t let that stop him. He was given a soft, toy version of himself, and he loved it. It made him feel special. The workers at the center took good care of him, hoping one day he’d be strong enough to return to the sea.

The word “Tokkari” means earless seal in the Ainu language, and that’s the name of the place because it helps seals like him. The center is a safe home for seals that have been hurt, often from fishing nets or other dangers. Visitors can watch these seals play and learn more about their lives. The center does everything it can to protect and care for these seals.

Sadly, the world’s sea animals are disappearing, partly because of the harm humans cause. Every day, more animals are in danger, and if we don’t act soon, we could lose so many beautiful creatures forever.

The harpy eagle is the biggest and strongest bird of prey in the world. Its wings can spread out to 7 feet and 4 inches long—longer than some people are tall! Even though they are big, they don’t weigh too much, only around 8.5 to 20 pounds.

You won’t see harpy eagles everywhere. They live high up in the tall trees of tropical forests. Sadly, their homes are being cut down, and that’s making it harder for them to survive. There are fewer than 50,000 harpy eagles left in the world today.

These birds don’t eat little things. They hunt bigger animals like monkeys, sloths, porcupines, and even snakes and lizards.

Bartolomeo Bove and his friend Juca Yagarape were diving in the clear waters of the Formoso River in Brazil one sunny July day. They didn’t expect what happened next—an encounter with a massive green anaconda. This snake, as long as a small bus and heavy like a big sack of potatoes, was calmly resting on the riverbed.

As they swam closer, the giant snake turned its head, flicking its tongue at the camera, its large eyes watching them with quiet curiosity. Then, it simply swam away, moving smoothly through the water. Bove, wanting to capture more of the snake’s peaceful swim, followed it.

The footage he got was breathtaking. It showed how the anaconda wasn’t the scary, dangerous creature many people imagine. Instead, the snake seemed calm and curious, not at all aggressive. Sometimes, it even came closer, gently licking the camera lens as if it wanted to learn about the strange humans watching it.

Bove, amazed by the encounter, shared his thoughts. He said anacondas are often misunderstood. “People think they’re aggressive, but they’re not,” he said, smiling. “The snake wasn’t bothered by us at all. It was just swimming, as if we weren’t even there.”

Bove explained that the clear waters around Bonito, where they were diving, are one of the few places in the world where anacondas can be seen in their natural habitat. The beauty of these rivers made it possible for them to experience such a rare moment with the giant snake.

Anacondas are the largest snakes in the world. They can grow as long as a school bus and are strong enough to squeeze the life out of their prey. But Bove showed that in the wild, these magnificent creatures are not the monsters people often think they are.

In the end, Bove was left with a deep respect for the snake, and a feeling that the world was much more gentle and wonderful than most people imagine.
